Program Description:

Pet Friends is a lively magazine series about pets hosted by animal-lover and broadcaster, Jenny Whittall, and her golden retriever, Lucy. Each show is comprised of several lively features where our cameras go out to meet owners and their pets on location.

The subject of pets is covered from a wide range of angles, including items on pet shows, pets in crisis, rescued pets, pet heroes, pets at the vets, pets in the movies, service pets.

The first 26 programs are theme-based, providing a documentary-style approach to cover a subject area in some depth. The final 13 programs are open-ended magazine shows.

All programs take a look at the deep human/animal bond, and the many ways that people and pets relate in their daily lives and more special circumstances.

All the programs have been informed by knowledgeable experts including:

  • Dr. Desmond Morris, of Oxford, England, author of numerous books and television series on human and animal behaviour;
  • Dr. Stanley Coren, of the University of British Columbia, author of several best-selling books on dogs;
  • Pioneering bird behaviourist Chris Davis from Chicago, and other independent consultants in the veterinary, training and animal rescue fields;
  • The British Columbia SPCA.
